Masquerade

Hiding in my masked disguise
I watch the world through lying eyes
The poor put on a bold display
Live like they are king-for-a-day

Lets go dance in masquerade
With candyfloss and lemonade
Where chaos spreads with faceless blame
No other night will be the same

Under a shim’ring dusk they meet
The lover’s plan almost complete
Kept apart through bitter spite
They disappear into the night

Stealth-y I see him wait
Malicious eyes consumed with hate
The man approaches unaware
And walks right to the killer’s lair

Let’s go dance in masquerade
With candyfloss and lemonade
Where chaos spreads with faceless blame
No other night will be the same

The joker who’s just there to play
Finds himself in disarray
He stumbles through the growing crowd
To get home quick as he’s allowed

The ones who had authority
Are now in the minority
They are no stronger than the rest
And cower with a weak protest
